Despite a wet winter with 25% more rainfall than average, crop prospects remain promising. Dry spells in January and February allowed late winter planting, and most crops are establishing well, though later-drilled wheat appears nutrient-deficient. Different drilling methods have shown varied success. Winter oilseed rape has fared well against pests, and increased frost days have reduced disease pressure in early-drilled wheat. Farmers are advised to maximise dry days, monitor crop nutrition, and plan applications carefully. With plenty of agronomic options available, attention now turns to optimising growth conditions for a strong spring season.
